Parent Child Interaction Therapy for Selective Mutism is an evidence-based treatment for children with a specific form of anxiety, selective mutism. Exposure and response prevention therapy (ERP) is the process used to break down goals into smaller manageable steps. The therapist guides the patient through each step while keeping anxiety at a manageable level. ERP is very effective for children and teens with anxiety as they climb their ‘hierarchy’ to reach their goals.
