Child & Family Therapy

Cognitive behavioral therapy

Cognitive- Behavioral Therapy (CBT) focuses on teaching your child about their thoughts, behaviors and feelings. Clinician works with you and your child to challenge troubling thoughts and behaviors while developing personal coping strategies as progress is made. Therapeutic goals are set and consistently reassessed throughout treatment.

Parents and caregivers of children in CBT will be trained to help transfer skills to the home environment for purposes of generalization as is appropriate for the patient.

exposure and response prevention

Exposure and response prevention therapy (ERP) is the process used to break down goals into smaller steps, like a ladder of goals easiest to hardest. The therapist guides the patient through each step while keeping anxiety at a manageable level. ERP is an evidence-based treatment and is effective for children and teens with anxiety as they climb their ‘hierarchy’ to reach their goals.

Parent training is often involved in ERP to allow continued practice in the home environment and more global understanding of treatment itself for the child.

mindfulness training

Mindfulness skills training teaches the body how to regulate and the mind to slow down. Mindfulness is often used imbedded into other treatments to increase awareness and regulatory skill.

At Child and Family Therapy Collective, mindfulness is integrated into treatment as needed and is often used to help parents regulated within a the parent-child relationship.

PROTOCOL TREATMENTS:

Parent child interaction therapy

Parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT) is a highly evidence based treatment for ages 2 to 7 years old. Children who benefit from PCIT struggle with regulation, listening, builds positive relationships between parent and child through parent training and live coaching to enhance attachment and provide a warm environment for learning and relearning. In PCIT we learn skills that help us as adults edit how are are seeing, hearing, and loving children that may need a different kind of parenting than another child. See PCIT Clinic for more information.

Evidence-based PCIT adaptations are used as is appropriate in clinic.

  • PCIT for selective mutism (PCIT-SM) - See Selective Mutism Clinic for more information about selective mutism and treatment options.

  • PCIT for Autism

  • PCIT for Anxiety (PCIT-CALM)
